In the 1950s, Harold Victor White purchased the original farm situated on a then unnamed dirt road. It was later called Whites Road in recognition of the first family to settle there.
Whites Road remains a dirt road, but now instead of horse-drawn vehicles, large trucks, seeders and harvesters travel its length, leaving deep ruts or trenches in the mud in winter and choking clouds of dust in summer.
The verges of Whites Road are lined with old gnarled Mallee trees, the same trees that greeted early settlers. The scrub is interspersed with tea trees, wattles, wild oranges and quandongs, fruits the local Narungga aboriginal tribe harvested for food. Generations have farmed on the Whites Road property, proud to live on a road bearing their name.
